Frequently asked questions

Which image formats can I convert between?

It converts uploaded images between PNG, JPG and WebP using the browser canvas. Choose your target format and the tool re-encodes the image.

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion happens entirely in your browser using the canvas, so the image is never uploaded. It stays on your device.

What does the quality slider do?

For lossy formats like JPG and WebP, the quality slider trades file size against visual detail, where lower quality means a smaller file. PNG is lossless, so quality has no effect on it.

What is the difference between PNG, JPG and WebP?

PNG is lossless and supports transparency, JPG is lossy and best for photographs, and WebP offers strong compression with support for both. WebP often produces the smallest file at similar quality.

What happens to transparency when I convert to JPG?

JPG does not support transparency, so transparent areas are filled with a solid background, usually white, during conversion. Use PNG or WebP if you need to keep transparency.

Does converting reduce image quality?

Converting to a lossy format can lose some detail depending on the quality setting, while converting to PNG is lossless. Repeated lossy conversions compound quality loss.

Is there a limit to the image size?

Because the work happens in your browser, very large images use more memory and take longer, but there is no upload. Extremely large files may be limited by your device resources.
